The IC’s Winter‘s Trip to the Auwald in Weitwörth

Last Monday, we searched for the tracks and traces of animals in the forest and around the lake as we can see these tracks and traces better in the snow.

Not only did we see trails and tracks of rabbits, deer, horses, ponies and even dogs, but we also saw traces of what animals have been eating during the winter. We noticed that squirrels eat nearly everything on the pinecones, except for the top part. We could also see that birds had eaten from the pinecones too.

Afterwards, we found beaver chips that the beaver had gnawed at. We also explored the territory of the beaver. It was an area where a stream flowed into the lake. We could see traces of where the beavers had swam because their flat tails wiped the minerals to the side while they were swimming.
We could observe the teeth marks of the beavers on the fallen trees.

We played a game that taught us about the different types of hibernation. Even though it was freezing cold, we had an amazing time.
